A shadow moved across the silent lands, the trees swayed only slightly by a breeze that passed above but still only the sounds of birds filled the air. It has been some time since the black stallion had seen any of his herd members and with a new filly and then Memory and Moment being new he was afraid that perhaps something happened. Did he miss something or was everyone just content and seeming to stay out of sight. Zodiac listened to everything that came to his ears but not a sound, though he was hoping to hear atleast one of the fillies playing happily in a field or something. Zodiac moved into a canter his strides rythmatic as he crossed over the forest floor and to an opening not far from the main waterfall. He slowed to a walk and then haulted and gave out a loud call for his herd, hoping that all were alright.

[glow=red,1,600]Lace pricked her auds suddenly as a call she knew to be zodiac's filled the silent air. She wasted no time in wheeling around and cantering fluidly towards that direction. As she went off, Lace glanced around, and gave a loud nicker to tell Winter to hurry up. Then she turned back around and continued towards the direction she felt Zodiac was. Her slivery tresses whipped back in a silky array, and her spotted pelt gleamed in the sunlight that shone down softly. As a warm spring breeze drafted through Lace shook her head in pleasure, and bobbed her head in a way as to remove her dial from covering her bright chasms. Her daggers hit the ground softly, and swiftly and she gained upon the land easily. Finally she saw a cluster of trees and a shadowy bodice hidden among the trees. With a strike of excitement in Lace's heart she was about to call out, when suddenly sense came back to Lace and she slowed to a walk, with a soft smirk placed upon her maw. As she neared the form she gave a soft nicker in content as Zodiac was revealed, and she came before him with a loving smirk and a mischievious gleam in her chasms.
....................................................................................................
As Winter heard a call that she suspected to be Zodiac she was about to run in excitement to her father, when suddenly she decided that it would be more fun to sneak up on him. So she calmed herself, and pretended to follow her mother as she devised a plan. As her mother nickered back to her Winter replied with a short snort of indignance, and broke into a canter, before swerving away silently, towards the east direction. At a swift, yet silent canter she navigated easily, dodging trees and rocks and other obstacles in the terrain that Winter decided that they had been placed there for her entertainment. As she gained speed, she broke into a still silent gallop, her small daggers flying over the ground it seemed. And then finally she slid to an abrupt halt as she sighted her father. With a content nod Winter noted that she had beaten her mother, and she continued to silently move around her father, until she stood less then a yard from him, which was when she finally jumped out, rolling under his stomach and gently touching his belly, before rolling over giggling more then ever. But she wasn't done, as she saw her mother arrive she suddenly jumped back into the bushes and was hiding again, ready to make her next move...[/glow]

Moment
I burst through the trees at his call, swinging between them. Hooves dummed hard against the earth. I had mattured a bit more then Winter it seemed, my body anyway. I was growing fast and my baby fluff had disipeared into a smooth black croat, only stained by my perfect star. Mother stayed right behind me. We were having a race anyway. You'll never catch me! I proclaimed loudly with a laugh. Mother suddenly blazed past me. That was it. I plunged me head forward, ears back. My hooves pounded more frequently with the longer distances between them. I was at he side then, my back almost as tall as hers, when we burst into the clearing. I swerved one way, she swerved another. The only thing was she slowed and trotted over to Zodiac when I still was galloping around the clearing like a maniac. What?! I liked how fast I could go now! I sooo beat you mom! I just hearded her laugh quietly. Doubt it! She called back to me as she stopped infront of Zodiac. I laughed at that and turned in, adreneline still pumping through my veins like there was no tomorrow. By a hair. She said to me, I looked at her and realised what it meant. I had won! I started galloping full speed around the clearing adding in bucks every once in a while.
* * *
Memory simply watched the filly go around and sighed shaking her head. Hello Zodiac. She said nuzzling him. Then she looked at Lace. And hello Lace. Has Winter gotten into any mischief lately?

Shan Ten emerged from the forest, her albino white pelt shined with health. She watched as two other mares came, both with foals of their own. She on the other hand didn't have a foal, it's not that she couldn't have a foal but the fact that she was very shy and didn't seem to be the type of be able to take care of her own child. She quietly made her way over to the, and felt a bit different compared to everyone else around her, she watched them with her amber-brown eyes yet she tried to make sure she didn't seem to obvious.

Zodiac stood quietly as he noticed Shan Ten emerge and then the others came out of the trees. Winter was first and would have snuck up on him if only she wouldn't have slid to a hault which was when he had gotten just enough to know she was there. But he still acted somewhat suprized and watched as she giggled and then hid herself once again as if to try and scare her mother now. He couldn't help but give a soft giggle and then watched as Moment and Memory came galloping out of the trees. He gave a soft nicker to Lace and one to Memory as she came to a halt and Moment continued running around. Then Shan Ten came out to join them and he gave a nicker to her as well. He hadn't seen her in the longest time and thought for sure that she had left but was glad to see her still around. And so he would introduce them since Shan hadn't met everyone yet. Shan Ten this here is Memory and the young black filly running around is Moment. Memory this is Shan Ten. Lace had already met her but Shan hadn't met Winter yet. But Winter hadn't come out of hiding yet either. And Lace's filly is Winter's Treasure.

[glow=red,6,500]As Moment and Memory stepped into the clearing, a warm smile spread across Lace’s maw. She dipped her perfectly carved tiara, and sudden realization settled in her orbs as she listened to Memory’s question and pondered her answer for a few seconds before replyingTo tell the truth I don’t know, though I suspect so since I just heard her giggle, not two minutes ago. Although she did knock me into the pond this morning, and she stuck frogs on me right before I woke up, along with a grasshopper, which she placed on my nose. And yesterday she got mad at a bee that stung her, so she knocked the beehive down, and drenched it with water from the river, though that only resulted with her getting even more beestings. So…now as I re-think this all, I’ll have to say that Yes, she has been getting in bundles of trouble lately.
Lace let out a laugh and gave Memory a knowing smile. As Shan Ten suddenly emerged from the trees the smile on Lace’s maw grew even brighter. Shan ten! I haven’t seen you in ages! What have you been up to? Lace asked happily. This was starting out to be a brilliant day. As Zodiac made the introductions Lace suddenly remembered that Shan Ten hadn’t met Winter. So she called her up amusingly Winter! Come here! And as she waited she turned back to ShanTen and nudged her neck with a friendly smile.
………………………………………………………………. Suddenly Winter caught the scent of a new equine! In excitement she was about to race over and greet the horse happily, until suddenly another scent entered her nostrils. She couldn’t quite tell what it was and curiosity overtook her, even as her mother called. She decided that she’d check it out real quickly and make it back over to her mother in the blink of an eye. So winter turned and headed off at a trot, flaring her nostrils curiously. Moment had matured a bit faster then her, and Winter felt herself growing a bit more distant form Moment as they both aged. Of course they were still friends, but something had changed in Winter and Moment that somehow set them apart a bit. As Winter traveled on, the scent grew stronger, along with winter’s curiosity. She knew that scent. Mother had shown her it before. But what was it? Winter slowed to a walk and lowered her muzzle to the ground, inhaling deeply the scent. As she traveled on the scent suddenly was lost. Winter stopped and sniffed around thoroughly puzzled. But suddenly fear struck Winter and her eyes widened in alarm as she recognized the scent, she backed up quickly, whiping her head all around, trying to find where it was she that she could head the opposite way, but in fright she realized that it was a whole pack and they had pretty much surrounded her. Who? The Wolves. Suddenly a low growl came from under one of the bushes, and another from behind the trees, and suddenly they all jumped out, their eyes yellow, drool dripping from their mouths, and they looked half-starved. Winter screamed at the top of her lungs, and she took off galloping as fast as she could towards Zodiac and her mother. She screamed again and again and again as she ran. Trying to be heard. The lead wolf let out a howl, and tears dripped down winter’s cheeks. Suddenly hope erupted form Winter as she realized that she was about 30 feet form Zodiac and mother, but that hope was killed as suddenly she tripped. And teeth and claws dug into her flesh, she screamed again in agony, but this time half of her scream was drowned by the bite the wolf took out of her neck, and she suddenly felt the energy start to drain from her, and she stopped struggling as she started to go limp, though she managed one last scream, though was there any hope left at all?

Shan Ten noticed the filly whom must have been Lace's Shan hadn't seen Lace in forever but she was closest to that single mare. She watched Winter as she came closer to them before she noticed the fear striking through her. Shan caught a quick scent of something her ears perked up as she realized that scent, fear ran through her and she locked up as it all went so quick. Shan heard a faint scream and that was all it took to make her snap out of her timid weakness. She didn't even say anything to anyone before bolting in the direction of Winter, she hoped she wasn't too late but she wasn't even thinking. She wasn't even thinking about the fact that wolves were probably twice as strong and agile as she was, but her motherly instincts were in high geer right then. She charged the wolves forcefully knocking one over and almost stepping on a smaller one, she had to be sure she didn't hurt the foal anymore then it already was. Her pale pelt and the spotted one of the filly made an odd scene. Shan looked down at the filly swallowing but heard a growl and then felt sharp nails and teeth in her hindquarters, she flinched and started bucking trying to knock the large wolf off her back without stepping on Winter. She nearly exausted herself and she realized it was a trap, they knew she would buck and soon be exausted. She dropped and rolled injuring the single wolf. Yet she looked at the rest of the pack as she started panting, she wasn't the tallest mare in the world so once she was very gullible standing inbetween starving wolves and their prey. She clasped her teeth together as her wounds started to sting the red was sharp contrast to her snowy pelt. Her ears folded down as they began to spread out in an attempt to seperate Winter and her, she backed up her timid side becomeing more appearant as her exaustion and sudden impulse started to take affect. She stood close to Winter growls and howls filled the air and she felt fear gripping her and winding around her equine mind. She took a deep breath ready to defend whatever life still layed in the small filly.

Zodiac watched as Lace conversed with the two mares and was pleased that they all seemed to be getting along. Then Lace called for Winter, their daughter who had seemed to be getting herself into trouble but it all seemed to be fun and games for now and so Zodiac wasn't bothered. Winter seemed to be taking her time though and it didn't take long for Zodiac to start worrying. He took a few steps away from the group, his ears pricked forward and his head high as his nostrils flared to take in the air. Zodiac pinned his ears down when the scent of wolves moved into his nostrils and he reared and a snort was released. Then a scream entered his auds and he bolted forward, his long strides carried him as scream after scream actually frightened the large black stallion because Winter was his only blood daughter. He came to a clearing as he watched all the wolves pounce upon the leopard colored filly and Zodiac didn't halt for a minute but picked up more speed. He jumped over his daughter, hitting the wolves with his feet and knocking them off of her body. He reared and landed upon those that were still trying to kill they filly and then he chased down the leader who still seemed to be eyeing them all. Zodiac chased him down through the trees and caught up with him and stepped upon his tail and then legs. He didn't kill him quickly but landed upon him several times before turning quickly and kicking out with a powerfull hind leg and hitting the male right in the head. Zodiac then left rather quickly back to the clearing where his daughter layed and by now Lace would be there as well. He came galloping into the clearing and came to a halt beside his daughter and lowered his muzzle. His eyes were not showing his usual firm temperment but he was actually worried and scared for the well being of Winter.

Shan watched Zodiac with a little bit of relief but at the same time she took a few steps back from Winter and Zodiac giving them some much needed space. She stood only four feet away from the filly, her dark optics watched them but she started to feel the sting once more in her hind leg. She lifted her left hind leg trying to remove the pressure on her wound. It didn't look deep to her but at the same time it felt deep. She kept her hoof off the ground putting preassure on it in small steps.

Moment
I heard the scream and slid to a complete stand still, my hind legs sliding underneath me so I was able to wheel around to the direction of Winter and bolted after Zodiac, my long legs gathering ground quickly. My mother was soon behind us, but I was aware of nothing but the scent of blood in my nostrils and the wolves around us as we burst into where Winter lay and Shan Ten stood. I bolted over to the and lowered my head down to Winters. Zodiac started chasing the leader off and the other wolves soon ran away as soon as they realised that the leadership was gone. Winter... Please let her be ok...

Memory
I was after my daughter in an instant, running at top speed but yet un able to catch up. By the time I got into the clearing Zodiac was chasing off the leader and Moment was checking out Winter.

[glow=red,1,600]At the first scream Lace froze. Her heart pounded, and she felt dizzy in fear. Her body was rigid as she waited for some conclusion to what she had heard. Then there was another scream, it rippled in pain this time and Lace burst from a standstill to a gallop, running as fast as her Arabian blooded pillars would allow her...
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Pain vibrated mercilessly through Winter's body and she opened her maw to scream again, But nothing came out. Why did nothing come out? well one reason might be fear, another exhaustion, But personally I'm betting it's because of the gash in her lungs.
Winter had felt it as the wolf had dug into her lungs, but she hadn't realized why it was certain death. Now she realized it, as blood flooded into her lungs, and she knew, as gruesome as it was, that she would drown in her own blood. Her head was dizzy and she soon fell into a state of slight un-conscienceless, weaving in and out through reality and dreamland.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
As Lace ran into the clearing a scream of pain and fury came from her, and one of the wolves froze in surprise. Lace wasted no time in rearing up and killing the stalled wolf in one blow on it's head. No pleasure came out of this for her though. Lace hardly noticed Zodiac and Shan ten, or even moment and memory in the clearing already. And she was not even finished killing the stupid mongrels by the time that Zodiac killed the leader, but as they started to run off Lace managed to drag out a loner from one of the bushes, and kill him, only this time she did it slowly, letting the pain seep into the wolf, and then she left him to die back in the bush where he had been.
With no heisitation Lace rushed over to Winter, hope clear in her eyes. But all of her hope dissolved as she heard the gurgling sounds of Winter's breaths. Tears sprouted from Lace's optics as she looked down upon what was surly her dying daughter, and she had no idea of how to save her. Lace laid down next to her daughter and laid her head next to Winter's. And the tears just kept coming. She never took her eyes off of winter, and she couldn't get the thought out of her head that if she had been a better mother, Winter would not be on what was certainly her deathbed. [/glow]

The black stallion stood next to Lace and the dieing filly. Winter had been a strong foal and would have grown up to be a great mare. But now she wouldn't have the chance. Zodiac blamed himself for what had happened He wasn't abe to keep his family safe and now he had lost his first and only daughter. He layed down next to Lace, his neck over her back as he nuzzled at the filly. The sound was horrid as she was chocking on her own blood and a single crystal like tear fell down the stallions cheek. There was nothing he could do to help her and he had failed as his job not only as a father but as a band stallion as well. Perhaps he was too young to try and have his own herd already.
