Diablo stared around the stall in mocking fear. He gaped at the hay, and what stupid luxury the humans and people had. He got up immediately, and felt a sting and pound in his head. He then froze. Wait, why was he so confused about this? Wasn't this his home? He shook his head, but it pounded again.
His confused eyes scanned the stall in front of him, empty. He looked next to him, one painted mare, brown and white, and on the other side, a chestnut stallion.
Diablo tilted his head again and then nickered to the horses. They turned to him, and Diablo took a step back. Their eyes! Their eyes! Their eyes were ghostly gray, calm, tame. Diablo shivered, and then wondered why his eyes weren't that, wasn't he supposed to?
Diablo nickered again, but this time they ignored him. But not the humans. They surrounded his stall. One soon came in, feeling Diablo's head. Diablo felt dizzy. Wait, what's my name? he asked his horrified mind. The humans were around him instantly, hushing to calm him down. They stroked him carefully to make sure he stayed awake.
Diablo did. The vet had stroked him too, and then all the people left. "Where'd you find him?"
"Nearly dead and unconscious by the road."
"You'll have to keep him, he cannot go out again, unless his injury is not permanent, which would be a miracle if not."
The boy swallowed. "But, he's a wild horse! It's just a bump!"
"A fatal bump if let into wild which is too rough for that bump, I doubt the poor thing remembers who he is."
The boy turned away sadly. He had found Diablo, and was horrified. But he had hoped the horse to be released again, for that's what he supported. But now, the 1 in a million chance, was just a dream. And a dream to Diablo too.
Diablo chewed his hay later that day. He was confused, but had hear the words loud and clear. He was sad, and was upset to find out how his mares were doing. He wondered if a stallion had taken over, or if Dream really cared.
Diablo hardly could remember his name, and was proud to remember all that. He decided to work hard to prove to the humans that he could be free. And it wouldn't be hard to prove to the little boy.
****Two Months Later****
Diablo was found bad. Well ok actually. They were considering letting him go, but not entirely. And not everyone wanted him to go. But the boy had stood strongly and said he would release the horse anyway, so there wasn't much of a choice, the boy was always a dare devil.
So, Diablo was brought outside, and slowly unclipped. They released the horse, and then all began to clap loudly. Diablo bucked and ran. His head thudded a little, but hardly. He ran back to his home, but would he be able to remember anyone there?
