Dream Breeze smiled sheepishly at his playing along. Follow the yellow brick road, she muttered, dial turned, staring up towords the moon. The breeze continued to lift her mane in the opposite direction of where her head was turned, thus exposing the small silver cloud on her forehead. The air was slightly chilly, and she watched the white breath from her nostrils puff out and disappear with dull fascination. She was a lot more relaxed than she had been all day. She closed her mismatched orbs and said louder, Do you remember the question you asked me about telling the truth, Illusion? Then she paused briefley, giving him some time to think. I have the answer. Because the truth hurts we lie to ourselves and others, and think we'll be happy with that. But it's never lies that make us happy. Then her eyes flashed open and her maw parted, gentle words flowing, lyrics to a song but not singing along. Because when life gives me lemons, you make lemonade. Because when I scream it's connected to pain. Because the leaves fall but grow again in spring. Because, because, because. Because life is everything. But how will life go on without spring? The song wouldn't make much sense to most horse's ears, but she knew Illusion a little better than that. He'd know the meaning, and he may or may not say it aloud. In her own head, she translated When life is sour, you made it sweet. I am wounded. Natural events can tear me apart, and they'll happen over and over again. But that's life. And how will life go on without these natural events? She nodded to herself. Yes, now she remembered. She, of cource, remembered the song; she'd written it for Snow Drift originally. But why had she said it? Even she didn't know. Perhaps it just fit the moment, perhaps her lips wanted Snow Drift's song to life on in Illusion.
In that simple moment, lost in her thoughts, eyes now downcast, she felt Illusion's nose on her shoulder, his breath. She was slightly startled, as she hadn't noticed him approaching. Her eyes widened in shock and she sucked in a breath of air and her head flew up to stare at him. And that was all she did. For, where he had nudged her, there was a feeling. During the brief seconds his flesh had connected with hers, there had been a little spark, and her pulse had quickened. She felt shocked, like she was an electric outlet and his nose was a plug. And only ten minutes ago, his doing this would have made her perfectly furious, but now... She liked the feeling. But she didn't know what do do about it. Take a step closer or away? Say somthing or put a sock in it? If she should speak, what should she say? Confusion clouded her eyes and she ripped them from him and looked to her left, towords the horizon. Staring at nothing. Wetness in her orbs were blinked rapidly away. Her mouth was dry. She was scared. What did this mean? That she was forgetting Snow Drift for a new life? How could she? Just as she was about to start mentally beating herself up, the voice in her head. The voice she so longed to hear. You haven't forgotten me, Dream Breeze. But you must move on. Life goes on. Remember? 'How can life go on without spring?' Don't worry. Go be happy. Be free from the misery you're putting yourself through. Be free... The voice started to fade. And then it was all clear to her. No, don't go! she shrieked inside her head. Please don't go! Snow drift! But it was too late. Betrayal welled up inside her heart, but her heart had no room left in it for this feeling. So it was pushed out, and life went on, though her mind raced. Will Snow come back when I need him again? Will I need him again? Don't be stupid, of cource I'll need him again. But when? PLEASE, SNOW! her heart cried out once more. Please...! But in her soul, her very esscence, she knew his spirit was at rest, though her memories of him would forever remain embedded into her brain. And every time she closed her eyes she would see his face. Was that enough if she couldn't have him? Yeah. It was enough.
